| Mechanically remove particles from the water by
trapping them in filter pads or other media.
| Biologically by converting ammonia to nitrites and then to nitrates. |
Aquatic plants will consume the nitrates.
External filters work better than submersed filters because they receive needed oxygen for nitrifying bacteria.
Without bio-filtration, the ammonia level can become too concentrated and unhealthy to support fish.
Tetra Pond Clear Choice Bio Filters are an excellent choice to provide all three types of filtration in ponds up to 2,400 gallons.
4 Stages of Clean Choice Cycle:
| Intake - Water is pumped into top inlet and dispersed by Trickle-Flow spray bar. | |
| Mechanical Filtration - Sponged debris removed by filter sponge pads. | |
| Bio-Filtration -
Water trickles over the bio-rings that provide massive
surface area for aerobic bacteria to thrive: Ventur inlet supplies oxygen for aerobic bacteria. The beneficial bacteria on the bio-rings convert ammonia into nitrites and the nitrates.
| Discharge and Nitrate Removed - Purified water is discharged out the bottom of filter to the pond. Nitrates can be removed from the pond by aquatic plants and/or partial water changes. |
External filters, such as the Clear Choice Bio Filters , give superior bio-activity compared to submersed filters. External filters allow oxygen to feed the beneficial bacteria that adhere to the bio-media such as the Clear Choice Bio Balls.
