Clematis 2006 Standard Stocking Varieties Besides our basic varieties we bring in new varieties weekly from our Clematis growers in the Niagara Peninsula. If you have been looking for a particular variety we can special order it for usually within 2 weeks. GROWING TIP: Clematis prefer full sun but cool roots, so shade the soil with shrubs or garden rock. We have separated Clematis by their 3 basic pruning care styles. Pruning Group "A" = These flower only on growth produced the previous year. Pruning should only consist of cutting out weak or dead stems as soon as they are finished blooming in May/June. Pruning later will limit the amount of blooms the following season
Pruning Group "B" = Normally these bloom on last years and this years growth. Ideally a light spring pruning is all that's needed. You may wish to prune hard every second year to rejuvenate the plant. It will not hurt to do this , and only limit blooms for one season.
Pruning Group "C" = These only bloom on current years growth. Bloom is from early summer until fall. Cut these plants in early spring as close to the ground as possible. They can be left unpruned to climmb a large structure. They can quickly grow out of control.
Clematis "Vitcella" Small flowering Clematis known for their abundant blooms from top to bottom
